A treatise by a Mexico City priest on methods for promoting the spiritual and temporal welfare of the Indians. Consists of a detailed rejection of the proposal made by a Puebla priest for the sale of indulgences to release Indians from the prohibition against eating meat on certain days, and Díaz's own proposals to aid the natives and enhance their utility to the State by their establishment in towns, suppression of the repartimiento system, correction of abuses among government officials and landlords, and similar devices.

Ezekial Thatcher was clerk of the Parkville School District, Shasta County, Calif. He emigrated to California from Pennsylvania in 1850 and helped establish the first school district in the Parkville area.
